Argentine rockstar 'Pity' Álvarez arrested for shooting murder

Álvarez allegedly pulled a 7.35 calibre pistol on the victim, Cristián Díaz, shooting him four times.

An Argentine rockstar has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 36-year-old man on Wednesday in the Villa Lugano neighbourhood of Buenos Aires City.

Cristian “Pity” Álvarez handed himself over to police on Friday morning at the Villa Lugano Police Station, after a brief stint on the run.

Álvarez is the lead singer of the rock band Viejas Locas.

“I was the one that shot him, I killed him”, Álvarez told reporters, who were waiting outside the police station. “I killed him because it was him or me”, he claimed.

The rockstar and the victim, 36-year-old Cristian Díaz, are believed to have engaged in an argument on Wednesday evening. It was during the argument that Álvarez allegedly pulled out a 7.35 calibre pistol, shooting Díaz four times.

Álvarez’s lawyer said that, aside from the self-incriminatory statements the rockstar made to reporters on Friday, his client “was in a difficult situation” given the witness statements given by residents of Villa Lugano.
