ABCC Kiddies’ Christmas Fund brings festive spirit to vulnerable children
The Christmas appeal supports the Salvation Army centre in Villa Elvira, La Plata, Buenos Aires Province.
The Argentine-British Community Council (ABCC), newly renamed as the Asociación Civil de la Comunidad Argentino-Británica (Argentine-British Community Civil Association), has launched its annual Kiddies’ Christmas Fund 2025, inviting the charitable to help bring some festive joy to children facing hardship.
The Christmas appeal continues a charitable tradition started by the Buenos Aires Herald and now focuses its attention on supporting the Salvation Army centre in Villa Elvira, La Plata, Buenos Aires Province. Since its founding in 2017, the Buenos Aires Times has helped to promote the fundraising drive.
This year’s campaign concentrates its efforts on the Villa Elvira centre, where Saturdays throughout the year are dedicated to children and young people from the local community.
Each weekend the centre opens at 10 a.m. to provide breakfast for between 30 and 45 children, offer playtime, songs, games and age-appropriate activities, and serve a wholesome lunch with dessert. In the afternoons, teenagers and young adults take part in recreational and educational programmes including volleyball and drama workshops.
Many of the young people who attend the centre live in situations of high vulnerability. Through its work in Villa Elvira, the Salvation Army seeks to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children and youth can find support, structure and hope.
