Alberto Fernández, CFK line up first joint public appearance in Merlo this Saturday
Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner likely to attend event in Greater Buenos Aires this Saturday, which falls on 16th anniversary of day Néstor Kirchner assumed presidency.
The first joint public appearance of the so-called 'Fernández-Fernández' presidential ticket will take place this coming Saturday, May 25, in Merlo in Greater Buenos Aires, sources confirmed to Perfil this morning.
The Kirchnerite-Peronist ticket, headed by presidential candidate Alberto Fernandez and vice-presidential candidate Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, will hold a rally to mark the 25 de Mayo holiday and the "remodelling of the Quinta La Colonial," according to the municipality's mayor.
However, Mayor Gustavo Menéndez – who later confirmed the news to state news agency Télam – said the event "will not be the launch of the formula or the presidential campaign," adding that it would be "an inaugural act [to mark] the remodelling of the Quinta La Colonial.
Though the Patria Institute has not yet confirmed Fernández de Kirchner's attendance, sources close to Menéndez told Perfil the former president would attend.
La Campora leader and national deputy Máximo Kirchner is also expected to attend.
The location of the event, and its date, carries significance for Kirchnerismo. This Saturday marks the 16th anniversary of the day Néstor Kirchner, Fernández de Kirchner's late husband, assumed the presidency.
The Quinta La Colonial in Merlo, is re-opening after being closed for the last 20 years after redeelopment. Now open to the public, the site includes a sports centre, football pitch and a professional-level synthetic hockey field, playgrounds and a six-hectare park open to the public featuring an artificial lake. It is also due to be renamed Quinta "Néstor Kirchner."
