Two new diagnoses push Argentina coronavirus total up to 21
Of the 21 confirmed coronavirus cases, 12 are in the capital, with four in Buenos Aires Province, two in Chaco, one in San Luis, one in Córdoba and one in Río Negro.
Two new cases of coronavirus were detected on Wednesday in Argentina, with the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases now totalling 21 people.
To date, only one case of the infectious disease has resulted in death, which occurred last Saturday.
According to the National Health Ministry, the new cases involve a patient in Buenos Aires City and another in Buenos Aires Province, both of which recently had returned from Europe.
To date, there is still no sign of community transmission, as all of the patients had recently travelled abroad.
Of the 21 coronavirus cases, 12 are in the capital (including the deceased), four in the province of Buenos Aires, two in Chaco, one in San Luis, one in Córdoba and one in Río Negro. Over 70 people remain in quarantine in total, according to the most recent figures.
On Thursday morning, authorities in City of Buenos Aires said they would prohibit all sporting events and large gatherings, including the upcoming Lollapalooza musical festival.
Following its rapid spread across the globe, Covid-19 was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation yesterday.
Argentina announced on Wednesday hat travellers from the countries worst-affected by the new coronavirus would be isolated to protect the wider population.
President Alberto Fernández's government will mandate a two-week isolation period for people arriving from China, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, South Korea and the United States.
The government also recommended that all individuals aged over 65 self-isolate in their homes, given their community is most at risk of contracting the disease.
