Buenos Aires University (UBA) Chancellor Alberto Barbieri on Tuesday awarded a UBA ‘honoris causa’ doctorate to French President Emmanuel Macron for his role in the struggle to preserve the environment as "a global spokesman and an authorised and concrete voice bringing awareness to environmental preservation"
The chancellor also revealed that the French leader had “committed himself to delivering a lecture at the University after April,” when France will be holding presidential elections.”
Barbieri was received by Macron in the Champs Elysées presidential palace and during the meeting, the duo agreed on plans for collaboration between UBA and French research centres within the Agenda for Sustainable Development UBA-Europe programme.
Concretely, they seek to advance jointly in researching new radars and satellites, developing courses in common between UBA and the French centres, detailed the university chancellor.
They will also be working on developing vaccines against the viruses causing chikungunya, West Nile disease and dengue.
"Over half the scientific and academic cooperation between Argentina and France proceeds via UBA," highlighted Barbieri.
This UBA-Europa programme is also shared with Italy, Spain and Germany.
Two months ago UBA, which has 320,000 students, celebrated its bicentenary.
