Bizarrap shines as producer gives first large gig in Buenos Aires
Bizarrap plays first large headlining show of his career, with 24-year-old producer and composer putting on a show for 20,000 fans at the Hipódromo de Buenos Aires
Argentine DJ and producer Bizarrap played the first large headlining concert of his career on Thursday night as he put on a show for 20,000 fans at the Hipódromo de Buenos Aires.
The 24-year-old, who until now had only performed DJ sets at festivals, put on an impressive show featuring more than 3,000 square metres of LED screens, 2,000 moving lights and 13 audio towers set up to create an immersive sound experience.
Over the past few years, the Bizarrap has become one of Latin America's biggest stars thanks to his "BZRP Music Sessions," a popular series of collaborations that have chalked up billions of plays on streaming sites like Spotify and YouTube. The Ramos Mejía-born composer has risen to international megastardom thanks to the tunes, which have featured artists such as Shakira, Quevedo and Paulo Londra.
Last year, his song with Spanish singer Quevedo was the most-played song in the world on Spotify for 55 days. This year's collaboration with Shakira, which held top spot for four consecutive weeks, broke several Guinness World Records, including the fastest Latin song to reach 100 million plays on YouTube – a tally that took just two days and 22 hours.
During Thursday's concert, Bizarrap performed solo on stage and ran through his hits, triggering the voices of the artists who participated in his sessions. The only guest in Palermo was the local rapper and songwriter Duki, who sang a few of the tunes he has written with the producer live onstage.
A self-confessed fan of legendary producers such as Skrillex and Flume, Bizarrap is an in-demand remixer of songs and is following a path trodden by trailblazers of the EDM scene.
Biza plays two more nights in Buenos Aires before heading off on an international tour.
