Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso clinch Grammy, capping off 'Papota' success
Argentine musicians Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso win Grammy for Best Latin Alternative Album for 'Papota.'
Musicians Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso have added an international seal of approval to last year’s breakout period after they won a Grammy for Best Latin Alternative Album.
The Argentine duo picked up the award during the pre-televised ceremony held ahead of the main Grammys broadcast, with the opening event streamed live on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
The win confirms their place as one of the most prominent acts to emerge from Argentina in recent years.
“We want to thank the Academy, the voting members, Sony and everyone who believed in us,” Paco Amoroso said during a brief speech as the duo collected the award.
“We are deeply grateful for the opportunity we’ve been given. To our family, our team, Argentina and all of Latin America, we love you,” he added.
Ca7riel then added a simple: “We love you. Kiss.”
The Grammy comes after a strong run for Papota, a stirring album that blended alternative rock, pop, jazz and electronic influences and helped push the duo into larger international circuits, including major festival appearances.
The timing of the award is striking. Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso have recently said they plan to step away from music for a period, making the Grammy both a career high point and a moment of pause.
Plans to release a new record capitalising on the success of Papota were put on hold, with the duo announcing on social media that they had decided to take a step back.
