Argentina’s Milei, Caputo to meet investors in New York Friday
Javier Milei and Luis Caputo will meet a select group of investors and company representatives in New York on Friday.
President Javier Milei and his Economy Minister Luis Caputo will meet a select group of investors and company representatives in New York this week, people familiar with the matter said.
The Americas Society/Council of the Americas will host the meeting Friday morning, said the people, who requested anonymity as they are not authorised to discuss the private gathering.
A representative for Argentina’s Presidency didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the meeting, which was first reported on by local outlet Infobae. A representative for the Americas Society also declined to comment.
The trip to the US follows Milei’s victory in the nation’s legislative vote last month. His party snatched over a third of the seats in both houses of congress, allowing the government to keep his vetoes and prevent impeachment. The surprise win followed intensive support from the US, with the Treasury setting up a US$20-billion swap line and intervening in the local currency market to prop up the peso.
Milei is also slated to speak at the American Business Forum in Miami Thursday. JPMorgan Chase & Co chief executive Jamie Dimon and Citadel founder and chief executive officer Ken Griffin are among featured speakers of that event.
