Buenos Aires to host final of Copa Libertadores 2024
AFA confirms that final of Copa Libertadores 2024 will be played in Buenos Aires, though association doesn't confirm which stadium will host event.
The final of the Copa Libertadores 2024 will be played in Buenos Aires, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced on Tuesday.
Which stadium will host the venue is yet to be decided, though the frontrunners will be among Boca Juniors' La Bombonera stadium and River Plate's Monumental.
The latter is odds-on to host the final.
"It's official: Buenos Aires will host the final of the Copa @Libertadores 2024. What a joy to welcome you in our country @CONMEBOL!" AFA posted on its X network account (formerly Twitter).
The final will take place in November. A total of 47 clubs are participating in this edition of the Copa Libertadores in the quest to follow in the footsteps of current champions, Brazilian side Fluminense.
Brazil, with eight teams (seven assigned places and the reigning Libertadores champion) and Argentina, with six, are the countries with the most representatives in the competition, which is now in its opening phase.
The group stage (eight four-team groups) will begin on April 2 and end on May 30.
