Kenyan Evans Chebet wins '42K Buenos Aires' marathon

Kenyan athlete Evans Chebet emerged victorious in this Sunday's Buenos Aires 'Marathon, a race in which more than 10,000 runners participated.

Chebet set a new record time of two hours, five minutes and two seconds in the '42K Buenos Aires,' the fastest time yet for the competition in the capital. That time was a full 18 seconds quciker than Chebet's compatriot Saina Kipkemboi, the winner of the 2018 edition.

The podium was completed by fellow Kenyans Reuben Kipyego, with two hours, five minutes and 19 seconds, and Daniel Kibet with two hours, six minutes and 62 seconds.

The winner of the women's race was also Kenyan, Rodah Jepkorir Tanui, who finished the course in two hours, 25 minutes and 46 seconds.

With regards to South Americans, the highest-ranked was Paraguayan Derlis Ayala, who finished in fifth with a time of two hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds. That rankign allows Ayala to qualify for the initial rounds of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The highest-finishing Argentine was Joaquín Arbe, with a time of two hours, 11 minutes and four seconds, who finished in sixth.

Arbe also qualified for next year's Olympics.
