Iran media outlet warns Milei has crossed ‘red line’ over hostile remarks

A media outlet in Tehran seen as a mouthpiece for the Iranian regime has accused President Javier Milei of crossing a “red line” after declaring that the Islamic Republic is an enemy of Argentina.

An editorial published by the Tehran Times, titled “Milei, Quo Vadis?” and written by Saleh Abidi Maleki, criticises the Argentine leader’s alignment with the United States and Israel and argues that Buenos Aires has shifted its foreign policy under external pressure.

While not formally a state newspaper, the Tehran Times is Iran’s main English-language daily and has long functioned as a vehicle for communicating the Islamic Republic’s worldview to an international audience. Founded after the 1979 revolution as a “voice of the Islamic Revolution,” it is not state-owned but is considered to be closely tied to the hardline factions within the Iranian government.

In that context, the piece frames Milei’s remarks as part of an “Iranophobic” agenda and warns that Tehran cannot remain indifferent to what it portrays as openly hostile positioning, describing Argentina as having crossed a diplomatic red line.

The criticism follows comments made by Milei during a speech in New York City, where he said: “I don’t like Iran. They have bombed us twice… they are our enemies."

According to the article, those statements are viewed in Tehran as aggressive posturing against the Islamic Republic.

The piece also rejects allegations of Iranian involvement in the 1994 terrorist bombing of the AMIA Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, claiming they form part of a long-running campaign against Iran.

It further accuses the Argentine government of acting in line with US and Israeli interests.

At one point, the editorial argues that Milei has “turned Argentina into the Israel of Latin America.”
