Province-by-province, how did the Fernández-Macri tickets perform?

Frente de Todos presidential candidate Alberto Fernández scored victories in the overwhelming majority of provinces in Sunday's PASO primaries, defeating incument President Mauricio Macri.

In fact, the Kirchnerite-Peronist opposition ticket, seconded by vice-presidential candidate and former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, came out on top in 22 districts, while the Juntos por el Cambio ticket headed by Macri and seconded by Peronist Senator Miguel Ángel Pichetto finished top in only Córdoba Province and Buenos Aires City.

The biggest winning margin could be found in Santiago del Estero, where Macri finished second with only 13.83 percent of the vote, according to the provisional count. Fernández, meanwhile, took a whopping 75.71 percent of tallied votes.

The Frente de Todos ticket took an average of 30 percent more votes in provinces such as Chaco, Catamarca, Corrientes, Formosa, Río Negro, Salta, San Juan, Tierra del Fuego and Tucumán. In the other parts of the country, the average gap between the two tickets was around 20 points, with 97.5 percent of votes counted.

Juntos por el Cambio, in contrast, only performed strongly in the capital, Buenos Aires City – where Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta saw off Matías Lammens – and in Córdoba Province, where Macri took 48.19 percent, compared to Fernández's 30.4 percent.

Córdoba is a symbolic province for the president, with many analysts seeing it as the region that handed the president victory in 2015, taking him into the Casa Rosada.
