Annual Korean film festival to launch next week in Palermo
The festival's sixth installment will feature twelve Korean films touching upon the topics of human rights, dictatorship and cinema.
The sixth annual Korean Film Festival in Buenos Aires launches next Thursday, September 19, bringing themes of Korean culture and politics to Argentine film aficionados.
The festival, which lasts until September 25, will hold its opening ceremony next Thursday at 7pm in the Cinemark Palermo on Beruti St.
Organised by the South Korean Embassy, the Korean Cultural Center in Argentina and the Korean Film Council, the festival touts the title of Argentina’s only festival celebrating Korean cinema.
Kicking-off the festival's opening night is 1987, a film depicting the life of a student’s interrogation and death at the hands of Korea’s military dictatorship. Released in 2017 and stewarded by South Korean director by Jang Joon-hwan, the film won numerous Korean film awards including an Asian Film Award nomination for Best Actor.
Other films at the festival will include Swing Kids,”which tells the story of a tap-dancing North Korean soldier who is interned at a prison camp during the Korean War.
A special retrospective on the life of the first Korean Palme d’Or winner Bong Joon-ho will also premiere at the festival, according to a press release.
Tickets will be on sale at the Cinemark theatres in Palermo and Caballito for the price of 150 pesos.
