The Tehran Times newspaper, considered to be one of the mouthpieces of the Iranian government, has published a controversial article containing a warning to Argentina.
The article, entitled “AMIA case on the eve of its 30th anniversary,” ends with a threat to Argentina, stating that the South American nation will feel “sorry for its enmity towards Iran."
In the article, a statement by President Javier Milei’s office is quoted, announcing that Argentina's government will declare Hamas to be a terrorist organisation. The head of state also ordered the freezing of the Palestinian group’s assets.
“The Argentine President's Office highlighted the good relations between Hamas and our Islamic Republic and reiterated its baseless assertions about Iran’s involvement in the attacks to the Israeli Embasssy in Buenos Aires and to the AMIA Argentine-Israeli Association,” they claimed.
They also considered that “as we approach the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the Argentine-Zionist Association in Buenos Aires, it seems we’re at the threshold of a new incident after three decades of ambiguity and deviation in a criminal case."
According to accusations made by the Iranian government, the crimes in the AMIA case were qualified as “Jewish self-harm,” or, in the opinion of different experts, “revenge and punishment of [former president] Carlos Menem’s government against Argentine Zionists."
In that context, the article criticised that court proceedings to deal with the case had lasted over 30 years, observing that during this long period “no technical investigation process had come to a reliable result by the police."
In its conclusion to the article, the Tehran Times warns: “Without a doubt, Tehran will not forget Buenos Aires’ anti-Iranian policy, but Iran has proven that it does not play easily in the enemy’s chessboard, but at the right time and position, it will impose its own game to the enemy and will make it feel sorry for its enmity towards Iran."
