Argentina enters global top 10 of coronavirus cases

After 164 days of lockdown, Argentina surpasses Chile to enter 10 most affected nations worldwide, with more than 9,000 cases and 200 deaths in last 24 hours.

Argentina is now among the top 10 countries in the world with the most coronavirus cases, after officials confirmed 9,309 new infections on Monday.

The new figures mean that the country has now recorded 417,735 cases since the first diagnosis on Argentine soil on March 3. 

The Health Ministry also confirmed the deaths of 203 individuals, lifting Argentina’s death toll to 8,660.

With more than 417,000 cases, Argentina has now surpassed Chile to rank 10th among nations with the highest number of infections. 

Top of the list is the United States, with more than six million cases, followed by Brazil and India, which are nearing four million. Unlike some other nations that also appear on the list of most affected nations, however, Argentina’s caseload is generally on the rise.

One good piece of news that is the country only ranks 17th in terms of fatalities, with Argentina’s death rate considerably lower than its peers in the top 10.
