Argentina now has fifth highest tally of Covid-19 infections worldwide

With 14,932 new cases alone on Wednesday and a total of 931,967 infections since the start of the pandemic, Argentina now ranks fifth globally for confirmed cases.

The struggle to contain Covid-19 continues: on Wednesday, the Health Ministry said 14,932 new cases had been recorded over the last 24 hours, taking total infections since the start of the pandemic to 931,967.

Argentina now has the fifth highest tally of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide, with the latest additions taking it past Colombia in a global ranking compiled by John Hopkins University.

The government said 350 fatalities (191 men, 157 women) had been registered on Wednesday, lifting the total figure to 24,921. Argentina is the 12th worst-affected nation in terms of deaths.

According to the Health Ministry’s daily report, most of the latest fatalities were in Buenos Aires Province and City, followed by Santa Fe and Córdoba provinces.

Officials said 4,316 people with Covid-19 were currently in intensive care units (ICUs), with bed occupancy at 64.1 percent nationwide and 63.5% in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA). 

Officials said a total of 23,519 tests had been carried out over the past 24 hours, officials said. The highest number of confirmed cases were in Buenos Aires Province (5,175), Santa Fe Province (2,470), Córdoba Province (1,606), Tucumán Province (1,241), Mendoza Province (925) and the capital, Buenos Aires City (825).
