The San Juan provincial police on Thursday arrested a man carrying a loaded gun in the vicinity of a rally headed by President Javier Milei, said Security Patricia Bullrich.
Local press said the man was only 200 metres away from the head of state when he was detained.
The man was identified as Francisco Agustín Castro, 76, who said he was a retired policeman. He was detained when a police frisking in the security dragnet around the rally found him to be in possession of a 9mm pistol containing 11 bullets.
The case now goes to a federal court, provincial attorney-general Eduardo Quattropani informed local newspaper Tiempo de San Juan.
Milei was heading a rally in the Casa de Sarmiento in the provincial capital to launch his National Plan of Literacy.
