Voters in Buenos Aires City will head to the polls on Sunday to elect 13 national deputies, just over half its total representation, and three senators to represent them in Congress.
In total, 15 tickets or slates are in competition for the upper house seats, with two set for the majority winner and one for the first minority.
President Javier Milei’s government is hoping for a strong performance in the capital, with its La Libertad Avanza-PRO alliance putting up a high-profile figure, National Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, as its first senatorial candidate. She will be seconded by Agustín Monteverde.
Lawyer Alejandro Fargosi, a former member of the Council of Magistrates, is the top candidate for lawmaker, followed by Patricia Holzman, Nicolás Emma, Sabrina Ajmechet and Fernando De Andreis, among others.
For Fuerza Patria, Senator Mariano Recalde is running to renew his seat on his ticket with Ana Arias, whereas for the Chamber of Deputies, lower house hopeful Itaí Hagman, backed by Kelly Olmos and Lucía Cámpora, among others, are in the running.
The Ciudadanos Unidos front, the local branch of Provincias Unidas in the capital, is also in the running, led by current deputy Graciela Ocaña, a former health minister.
The slate of candidates for deputies is headed by Senator Martín Lousteau, the chair of the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR).
Breaking with its usual approach, Coalición Cívica did not agree any alliance this year and will try its luck with deputy Marcela Campagnoli running for the Senate and City legislator Hernán Reyes seeking a place in the lower house.
Buenos Aires Province deputy Facundo Manes, heading the Para Adelante alliance, is looking to switch to the City and a Senate seat. The grouping has Sergio Abrevaya as its top candidate for deputy.
The Potencia front, meanwhile, has former economy minister Ricardo López Murphy as a candidate for deputy and Juan Martín Paleo as an option for the Senate.
Nuevo MAS has Héctor Heberling running for senator and Federico Winokur for the Chamber of Deputies.
Left-wingers Frente de Izquierda y de los Trabajadores – Unidad include Christian Castillo as top candidate for the Senate and deputy Myriam Bregman seeks re-election to the lower house.
