Yáñez says mobile phone with Fernández chats is missing, but promises screenshots

Former first lady Fabiola Yáñez informs court that she has misplaced the mobile phone that contained alleged conversations with the former president.

Former first lady Fabiola Yáñez has once again testified in the context of the gender violence case against former president Alberto Fernández.

Yáñez, 43, informed the court that she had misplaced the mobile phone that contained alleged conversations with the former president in which she referred to previous acts of violence perpetrated by the ex-president. Some of the messages have been reprinted in local media outlets in recent days.

However, the plaintiff told the court that she has screenshots of the alleged chat messages in which she refers to alleged abuse and assault.

According to reporting by the La Nación newspaper, Yáñez stated she lost her phone during a recent move to Spain.

Fernández made similar statements during an interview he gave to Spanish newspaper El País, where he remarked that previous chats with his ex-partner between 2022 and 2023 had “disappeared” from his phone.

“I have no way to corroborate that whole conversation,” he told the outlet.

Yáñez denounced Fernández for “physical violence” and “psychological terrorism” before the courts earlier this month. Days later, alleged chat messages and photos apparently showing evidence of the abuse were published in the local press. In the images, she is seen bruised on the face and arm.

Yáñez is expected to testify before the court within the next few days to present messages allegedly sent by the Frente de Todos/Unión por la Patria leader in recent weeks, which may prove that he violated the judge’s order not to communicate with her, restrictions imposed on the former president on August 6.
