Ocean Infinity, the company in charge of the search for the ARA San Juan submarine informed the Navy yesterday that it had detected an object 60-metres long, at a depth of 800 metres, during its search for the missing vessel.
In the light of this development, the US firm suspended its planned suspension of the hunt, which was due to begin yesterday and last until February, and its search vessel Seabed Constructor headed for the zone in question in the last minutes of Thursday evening, expecting to reach it early today. Until Thursday the plan had been to send the Seabed Constructor to South Africa for repairs during a period of suspension.
“Let us pray that it’s them,” the families of the 44 missing crew-members posted on social networks yesterday.
This latest development occurred in the week of the one-year anniversary of the submarine’s disappearance.
