Ford Falcon breaks down in front of Saudi Embassy in BA

A brown Ford Falcon broke down on Libertador Avenue on Wednesday evening precisely in front of the Saudi Embassy. The visiting Crown Prince is accused of playing a role in the death of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Consul in Istanbul in early October.

What to many might have just been an old Ford Falcon broken down on a busy avenue in Buenos Aires, to others was a seemingly divine act of black comedy.

A brown Ford Falcon broke down on Libertador Avenue on Wednesday evening precisely in front of the Saudi Embassy. Its officials just hours earlier had welcomed the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Buenos Aires.

As the news and images of the scene on Libertador broke, social media users and television commentators recalled how a Falcon of its year and model was reminiscent of the ones used by the country's 1976-1983 police and military dictatorship to kidnap political victims.

On Monday, it became known that a federal court in Argentina was examining a criminal complaint against the controversial Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for alleged war crimes committed in Yemen. He is also accused of playing a role in the death of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia's Consul in Istanbul in early October.

The Ford Falcon's break-down prompted initial concern among police and military personnel who are deployed to secure the building during the G20 leaders summit.

However, soon enough it appeared it was an authentic case of an old broken-down Falcon with the owner of the vehicle pulling out a hammer to fix it — which he did.
