Nearly half a million foreign travellers took trips to Argentina in the first two weeks of the year – a massive 33.5-percent increase on the same period last year.

In all, 460,000 foreign tourists visited Argentina in the first half of January, data from the Interior Ministry shows.

Foreign travellers spent a total US$312 million during their holidays in this country during that period, which accounts for a 10.5-percent rise in income made in 2023, according to a press release from the portfolio.

Tourists arrived in large numbers just weeks after a more than 50 percent of the peso. Despite the reduction of the foreign exchange gap, travellers still found value for money.

Out of the nearly half a million foreign tourists arriving to Argentina in the two-week period, most travelled from Brazil (23.6 percent), with Uruguayans  in second (14.3 percent) and Chileans third (14.3 percent).

Outside of Latin America, the United States came in fourth, representing 11.1 percent of all travellers.

Most tourists from abroad arrived in Argentina by ground transport with 217,155 arrivals, which also meant an increase from the previous year by 36.9 percent, while arrivals by sea increases by 29.5 percent and those by air by 3.11 percent.

The arrival of cruises also broke records in the 2023/24 season with a 30-percent increase of tourists and an eight-percent rise of dockings from the same period last year, which involves some 700 dockings in this territory and 750,000 international tourists visiting via cruise ships.
