Yáñez accuses ex-president Fernández of threats, harassment, abuse

Former first lady Fabiola Yáñez confirms gender violence allegations against ex-president Alberto Fernández with a 20-page court writ denouncing serious injuries and abuse of authority.

Former first lady Fabiola Yáñez has ratified her complaint of gender violence against ex-president Alberto Fernández with a 20-page court writ denouncing serious injuries and abuse of authority.

Yáñez, 43, filed a brief with the courts from Madrid at Argentina’s Consulate in the Spanish capital requesting that she be designated a plaintiff in the case. She attended the diplomatic building accompanied by her lawyer Mariana Gallego.

The document outlines and confirms her harassment and abuse allegations against her former partner, Fernández, 65, the veteran Peronist leader who served as Argentina’s head of state from 2019 to 2023.

Yáñez hardened her accusations against Fernández in the writ, alleging that she suffered “serious injuries doubly qualified by the link and perpetrated in the context of gender violence with abuse of power and authority” over a period dating back almost eight years.

In addition, she attributes “coercive threats” to the former president.

According to judicial sources cited by the TN news channel, Fernández’s aggressions and harassment against Yáñez started in 2016, long before the election campaign that ended with Fernández winning the Casa Rosada in the 2019 election.

Yañez states in the filing that she suffered violence initially at the Puerto Madero flat that Enrique ‘Pepe’ Albistur lent to the former president for accommodation and that the abuse continued when the presidential couple moved to the Olivos presidential residence in December 2019.

The former first lady claims that her ex-partner's behaviour was "habitual" and produced "unquestionable psychological consequences."

Yáñez also accuses Fernández of "harassment" and treating her with "constant contempt," even up to the current day.

The former first lady today lives in Madrid, Spain, with the former couple’s young son Francisco. Fernández today lives in Buenos Aires.

In her presentation, Yañez alleges that the former president slapped her on a daily basis, coupled with fierce arguments that she describes as "verbal violence." She also says the violence took place in front of their child.

Meanwhile, the former first lady is expected to expand on her testimony to federal prosecutor Ramiro Gonzalez on Tuesday morning via Zoom videoconference software.
