Dynamic Argentine duo win Stage final at World Tango Championship

Leandro Bojko and Micaela García crowned champions of Stage category at the 2025 World Tango Championship.

Dynamic Argentine duo Leandro Bojko and Micaela García were crowned winners of the Stage category Tuesday, the final dance-off of the World Tango Championships in Buenos Aires.

Representing the host city, Bojko and García triumphed in a category characterised by choreography that allows breaks in the dancers' embrace, as well as jumps and pirouettes.

After receiving their award, the couple danced to Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Kicho’ to celebrate their victory.

The 2025 edition of the Tango BA Festival and World Championship, organised by the Buenos Aires City government, drew a record 841 couples from over 50 countries for rounds of competition that began August 20 and featured performances in more than 20 theatres.

The final drew more than 3,200 people to the iconic Teatro Gran Rex theatre in the capital.

In an earlier competition on Monday, another domestic pairing – Diego Ortega and Aldana Silveyra, from Colón, Buenos Aires Province – won in the Track category, which reflects how tango is typically danced in the nation’s milongas: with a steady embrace as the dancers rhythmically move across the floor together.

Their celebratory dance was another tango classic, ‘La Cumparsita,’ by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Matos Rodríguez.
