Hollywood superstar, actor and producer Margot Robbie is in Argentina for a vacation and she’s heading to the stunning south for a Patagonian adventure.
Robbie, 33, has just ended a long promotion campaign and appeared at the Oscars, where she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Barbie, a film she also co-produced.
During recent interviews, the Australian star has expressed a desire to unwind and disconnect after a whirlwind few months.
With that in mind, she’s taken a trip to Rada Tilly in Chubut Province, deep in Patagonia, with her husband, fellow actor Tom Ackerley, and a group of friends.
A few days ago Robbie was spotted in the city of Comodoro Rivadavia and a series of snapshots of the star wearing a facemask began circulating online.
Local news outlet ADN Sur managed to confirm that Robbie and the rest of the group had travelled to Chubut Province on a private charter plane.
Their ultimate destination is the La Soplada cabaña owned by Francis Mallmann, for a unique week-long experience that involves cooking masterclasses by the famous Argentine chef.
Robbie was originally scheduled to make the trip in October 2022, but a scandal ended up thwarting the visit. She had arrived in Buenos Aires with her friend, English model and actor Cara Delevingne and the duo stayed in the capital before intending to travel on to Patagonia.
But the night before they were due to fly to Comodoro Rivadavia, they were both invited to Mallmann’s restaurant in La Boca. Paparazzi discovered the pair and their security team ended up coming to blows with a photographer.
The incident created a media firestorm and the celebrities decided to cancel their visit to Patagonia.
Robbie has clearly had it in her mind to return and finally make it to La Soplada, a rustic cabin that is located on a private island in the heart of Lago La Plata, western Chubut Province.
A travel website that sells the package – plansouthamerica.com – describes the island, the cabin and the experience offered.
“La Isla in Lago La Plata is gloriously remote. To reach the private retreat, visitors must fly from Buenos Aires to the port town of Comodoro Rivadavia. From there, they drive a dirt road for five or six hours, through fields of roaming cattle. Finally, they’ll embark on a bracing one-hour boat ride across a frigid lake.
“Large windows overlook the peaks of Cerro El Gorro, while impenetrable forests are reflected in the lake’s clear waters,” reads the travel site, explaining that there is no WiFi or mobile phone reception.
The tourist package is offered for a total of eight people, at a price of US$14,000 a passenger. This includes a stay at the island for seven days and six nights, in addition to five cooking masterclasses by Mallmann himself.
“La Isla does not disappoint. Francis Mallmann first discovered Lago La Plata some 30 years ago and decided to build a cabin there. The original home is now used by staff. Meanwhile, the newest abode, La Soplada (meaning ‘blown away’), was built for his Argentine TV series on outdoor cooking.
“Guided by the world-renowned chef, you can dominate the embers, flames and smoke while you transform simple local ingredients into incredibly delicious meals,” the portal organising the Patagonian tour reads.
“Join Mallmann for a six-night culinary adventure, learning to conjure local dishes over open fire," it adds.
This is Robbie’s third trip to Argentina. She spent time in the country back in 2013 when shooting the film Focus, which co-starred Will Smith.
