Argentina’s annual wine exports near US$1-billion mark

Nation is now the world's ninth-largest wine consumer; Export market worth US$933 million last year, making Argentina 11th-largest exporter by volume worldwide.

Argentina’s national wine industry exported products worth more than US$900 million last year, making it the 11th-largest exporter of wine-related products in the world.

By country, it is the ninth-largest wine consumer and the eighth-largest producer globally, according to data released to mark the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia (National Grape Harvest Festival), which is held each year in Mendoza.

Nationwide, 18 provinces produce wine or wine-related products with nearly 200,000 hectares across 22,039 estates dedicated to viticulture.

At the end of 2024, there were 856 active wineries in Argentina, according to data from the Observatorio Vitivinícola Argentino (Argentine Wine-making Observatory).

In total, wine-related exports totalled U$933 million in 2024, including bottled and bulk-bought wine, concentrated grape juice, raisins and fresh grapes.

According to data from the Argentine Wine Observatory, total exports increased by 15.3 percent compared to 2023, putting the US$1-billion-barrier within sight for the next year.

Bottled wine led export volumes, while concentrated grape juice and raisins recorded the highest year-on-year growth, with increases of 75 percent and 82.3 percent, respectively.

"Argentina is a key player in global viticulture,” said Mario González, the president of the Corporación Vitivinícola Argentina (COVIAR) industry group. Recent growth has seen Argentina “consolidate its position as the eighth-largest wine producer and the 11th-largest exporter worldwide,” he added.
