Caputo to skip G20 meeting in South Africa

Argentina’s Luis Caputo is the latest economy minister to skip a meeting of G20 finance chiefs in South Africa.

Argentina’s Luis Caputo is the latest economy minister to skip a meeting of G20 finance chiefs in South Africa, following a similar decision by the US delegation.

The minister will be represented by Finance Secretary Pablo Quirno, according to a government official with knowledge of the decision. They are splitting international travel duties, after Caputo accompanied President Javier Milei to Washington last weekend, the official added, requesting anonymity to discuss the plans.

During the Washington trip, Caputo met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and International Monetary Fund Manager Director Kristalina Georgieva — both are key stakeholders in negotiations of a new IMF program for Argentina.
