Argentina’s Economy Ministry has published the general outlines of the 2025 Budget following President Javier Milei’s nationally broadcast speech to Congress on Sunday night.
According to the Milei administration, Argentina’s gross domestic product is expected to improve by five percent next year, with sustained growth in the following years (five percent in 2026, 5.5 percent in 2027). The economy is currently in recession, with the International Monetary Fund forecasting a contraction of 3.5 percent this year.
In 2025, the Economy Ministry says that the official exchange rate will be 1,207 pesos per US dollar in December 2025 (compared to 982 pesos per greenback now).
The most optimistic projection is inflation, which is forecast by the Milei administration to decelerate to 18.3 percent year-on-year in 2025. Consumer prices rose 4.2 percent last month and have risen 236.7 percent over the last 12 months.
Milei noted in his address to the Legislative Assembly that a balanced budget has not been projected to Congress since 2014, while a fiscal surplus has not been recorded since 2010.
His government says Argentina's national public sector spending in 2025 will emerge with a slight surplus.
