Maduro orders withdrawal of diplomatic personnel from Argentina, six other countries in region

Venezuela orders withdrawal of all its diplomatic personnel from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, as well as expulsion of those nations' staff in Caracas.

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has ordered the withdrawal of all diplomatic personnel from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay in Caracas, while also announcing the withdrawal of its representatives from those countries.

"Venezuela is expressing its firm rejection of the interfering actions and statements of a group of right-wing governments, subordinate to Washington and committed openly to the most sordid ideological tenets of international fascism, trying to reinstate the failed and defeated Lima Group, who intend to disregard the election results of Sunday July 28, 2024, which made President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro victorious for a new Constitutional Period of 2025-2031,″ stated Nicolás Maduro’s minister.

In a press release, he held that the Venezuelan administration “reserves any legal and political action to enforce, preserve and defend our inalienable right to self-determination."

The foreign minister also claimed that the re-elected government “will face any actions attacking the climate of peace and cohabitation which have demanded so much effort from the Venezuelan people."

This was the response of the Maduro administration to the announcement on Monday by the Argentine government and others in the region to reject and disregard the election result in Venezuela.

A press release from the Argentine Foreign Ministry accused the Bolivarian chief executive of “once again disdaining the will of the people to live” in a “free, prosperous and democratic" nation.

In this respect, prior to Maduro’s demand for them to return to their countries, the portfolio led by Diana instructed the Business Representative in Caracas “not to take part in the proclamation of the ruling party candidacy called by Venezuelan authorities."

“The Argentine Republic considers it essential to allow access by the opposition to results protocols and also urges Venezuelan authorities to observe the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which it is a Party, especially Article 25," the Foreign Ministry stated.
