Pumas 7s beat Samoa and qualify for quarter-finals at Paris Games

Argentina's rugby sevens team had already defeated Kenya in the first match 31-12 and this triumph seals their qualification.

The Pumas Sevens closed the day with a resounding victory against Samoa on the opening day of the 2024 Olympic Games, thus ensuring a spot in the rugby quarterfinals.

The Argentine team, which had previously defeated Kenya in its debut, is now getting ready to define first place in Group B against Australia. Despite booing by French spectators, the Argentine team had a solid and focused performance, beating Samoa 28-12.

At the start of the match, Matías Osadczuk opened the scoreboard with a spectacular try, showing off his skills on the pitch. The superiority of the Pumas 7s continued with Tobías Wade saving a try and Graziano scoring a new one after a crucial recovery.

Before the end of the first half, Joaquín Pellandini scored the third Argentine try, thus consolidating a perfect score of 21-0 by half-time. The second half of the match held the same pace, with Argentina focused and consistent in its attack.

Marcos Moneta returned to the pitch, excellent news for the team which also had Rodrigo Isgró absent due to suspension. In spite of a brief respite in the last three minutes which allowed Samoa to score two tries, the Pumas 7s showed their superiority by staying focused, making it clear that there was no equality while Argentina was playing at its maximum level.

Matteo Graziano, who scored his first try at any Olympics, commented on the toughness of the matches and the desire the team has to end first in the group and keep growing.

Matías Osadczuk, an outstanding figure in the team with two tries and one assistance, expressed his satisfaction for the performance of the team on the first day of competition. Despite the nerves and pressure of playing in a stadium against them, the Argentine team showed its potential and is now getting ready to face Australia, assessing how to damage their rivals and continue to advance in the Games.
