Carlos Menem leaves hospital after pneumonia scare
Former president and senator for La Rioja Province was discharged from hospital on Monday after two weeks receiving treatment for pneumonia.
Former president Carlos Menem was discharged from hospital on Monday after two weeks receiving treatment for pneumonia, local media reported.
The senator for La Rioja Province, who will turn 90 on Thursday, is due to continue his recovery at home.
Menem, who was president from 1989 to 1999, was taken to hospital on June 13 suffering from a severe pneumonia and required intensive care.
He was tested for coronavirus but came up negative, medical sources said.
Following a week in intensive care, he recovered quickly.
The former president's daughter, Zulemita Menem, thanks medical staff for their help on Monday after the 15-day ordeal.
"At home THANKS to GOD, to the doctors, to all the Health personnel, who were part of Dad's recovery, to @IADTSA to @SwissMedicalG, family, friends, politicians, journalists ... to everyone who was interested, he asked and helped improve my old man," she poasted on social media.
Since entering the Senate in 2005, Menem has kept a much lower profile than during his presidency when he pursued an aggressive privatisation policy.
