A small group of so-called "pro-life" activists attempted to physically block the hallways of the Rawson Hospital in San Juan province to impede the transfer to the operating room of a 14-year-old pregnant disabled girl who had been raped.
The girl's abortion was supported by her parents and allowed by law, given Argentina's Criminal Code allows abortion in cases of rape.
A larger group of anti-abortion activists picketed the hospital.
Meanwhile, a local doctor is calling for sanctions against the medical staff involved in the operation on the girl, who was 10-weeks pregnant.
San Juan does not adhere to national protocols surrounding rape, despite the country's Criminal Code.
A 32-year-old man, Marcelo Villalobo, has been arrested in relation to the girl's rape.
Earlier this month, Argentina's Senate voted to reject a bill to legalise elective abortion up until the 14th week of pregnancy.
