A national lawmaker for the ruling Frente de Todos coalition on Monday presented a request for impeachment to the president of the country's Supreme Court, according to a government document.
The draft resolution called for "promoting a political trial against the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Dr. Carlos Fernando Rosenkrantz, for poor performance and possible crimes in the exercise of his functions," the document states.
In a post on Twitter, Vanesa Siley said she had "presented a request for impeachment to the President of the Supreme Court, Carlos Rosenkrantz" on September 25.
The request, presented by the 36-year-old lawmaker, comes just weeks after President Alberto Fernández made a move to reform the country's deeply politicised justice system. Under the Peronist leader's reforms, the number of federal judges would practically double in the Argentina's inland provinces, where many Peronist political leaders rule.
The reform would also dilute the power of one of Argentina's federal courthouse, Comodoro Py, which is overseeing cases in which Vice- President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has been named in various corruption investigations.
