Transport Secretary Franco Mogetta will be removed from his post in the coming days, according to reports.
Mogetta, 44, will reportedly be replaced by Luis Pierrini, a Mendoza-based businessman with close ties to Economy Minister Luis 'Toto' Caputo.
The decision, reportedly taken by presidential advisor Santiago Caputo, was communicated to Mogetta earlier this week.
Pierrini is known for his ties to the insurance industry, but has no known background in transport.
News of Mogetta's dismissal surprised some in the transport sector. He had recently received positive assessments from the International Civil Aviation Organisation for his work.
But he reportedly had a difficult relationship with top presidential advisor Santiago Caputo, who is said to have opposed him from the outset. Mogetta and the spin doctor are said to have clashed over decisions made by Presidential Chief-of-Staff Karina Milei.
The move forms part of a wider reorganisation of the transport portfolio, now led by Federico Sturzenegger, who heads the Deregulation & State Transformation Ministry.
Plans include the eventual dissolution of the Comisión Nacional de Regulación del Transporte (National Transport Regulation Commission, CNRT), and the possible merger of other agencies tied to commercial air travel.
Mogetta's removal, however, may be down to a wider conflict between Milei and Córdoba Province Governor Juan Schiaretti — namely, the support of his aligned lawmakers for a commission to investigate alleged presidential wrongdoing in the '$LIBRA' cryptocurrency scandal. Reports strongly suggest that is the decisive factor in Mogetta’s ousting.
Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has overseen the departure of more than 30 officials from government — including former infrastructure minister Guillermo Ferraro and ex-Cabinet chief Nicolás Posse.
