US ambassador says election result 'won't change' ties with Argentina

US Ambassador to Argentina Marc Stanley says strong relationship between two nations will continue, regardless of who emerges triumphant in Tuesday's election.

Marc Stanley, the United States' ambassador to Argentina, has said that the strong relationship between the two nations "will not change," regardless of whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump is elected in Tuesday's election.

The US envoy shared a message ahead of the US presidential elections this Tuesday stating that ties were strong enough to endure, whatever the result.

“My message to you is this: regardless of the outcome of the United States elections, there will be no change,” the official said in a video he shared on his social networks.

US citizens will go to the polls to elect their new president, with current vice-president, Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris, and former president Donald Trump, of the Republicans, set to emerge as the next leader.

Argentina's President Javier Milei is known to favour Trump, but has not voiced its preference publicly, as is convention.

Despite that speculation, Ambassador Stanley said Tuesday that "our cooperation will continue, and the US-Argentina relationship will prosper as it has for the past 202 years.”

The envoy said in his video post that "the biggest lesson I have learned as US ambassador to Argentina for almost three years now is that the relationship between the 47 million Argentines and the 346 million Americans is as strong as ever.”

“I am proud of how many Republicans and Democrats have travelled to Argentina over the past three years to grow this relationship, demonstrating true bipartisan support for the relationship,” he added.
