Half of respondents in survey say they’re ready to be vaccinated for Covid-19

Half of respondents in a new public opinion survey carried out by the Psychology Faculty of the University of Buenos Aires say they are ready to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Despite that, 78 percent said they recognise the importance of vaccination as a tool against the novel coronavirus, leaving a significant minority unconvinced. 

Asked specifically about Sputnik V (which has been criticised by some experts for the scant scientific evidence for its alleged effectiveness), opinion was split right down the middle with 43 percent in favour and 42 percent against. 

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine fared better – 54 percent said that they were ready to receive a dose while 30 percent rejected it. 

The high number of those resisting vaccination (22 percent) seems to contradict Buenos Aires Province Health Minister Daniel Gollán, who this week estimated that there is only "one percent of lunatics" who do not want to be vaccinated. 

The UBA survey consulted 1,490 participants in and beyond this the capital and was carried out online via social networks.
