Legendary musician Charly García undergoes partial nephrectomy, procedure in which part of the kidney is removed.

Legendary musician Charly García, 74, has successfully undergone kidney surgery and remains hospitalised in stable condition, his representative said on Wednesday evening, according to local media reports.

García underwent a partial nephrectomy, a procedure in which part of the kidney is removed.

The operation had been scheduled in advance, sources close to the artist told the television programme LAM, broadcast on channel A24.

“Everything went well,” the source said in a message sent to the programme.

García is receiving dialysis treatment and remains under observation at the private Instituto del Diagnóstico in Buenos Aires City.

The Argentine rock legend has recently been seen attending several cultural events, including a concert by British band AC/DC in Buenos Aires at River Plate’s Monumental stadium.

In 2025, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Buenos Aires in recognition of his outstanding contribution to culture.

Also in 2025, he received the Konex de Brillante award for his contribution to popular music.
