President Javier Milei’s star political advisor, Santiago Caputo, has formally joined the ruling party.
Caputo, who mostly works in the shadows but is a key figure in Milei’s government, signed up with La Libertad Avanza Thursday, as President Milei and his sister, Presidential Chief-of-Staff Karina Milei, watched on.
The ruling party – which hailed the new arrival as a “‘luxury affiliate” – is recruiting affiliates throughout the country ahead of the upcoming October midterms, a task overseen by the President’s sister in her role as the national head of the party.
Though presidential advisors do not formally join parties as a norm per se, Caputo has now committed himself publicly to the party.
In photographs published to mark the event, the top libertarian trio – known informally as the “iron triangle” – were shown celebrating Caputo’s formal affiliation with the ruling party with an embrace.
The images, released just a week after the expulsion of party co-founder Ramiro Marra, included a clear message to party members about the new libertarian hierarchy.
Also pictured watching on was Pilar Ramírez, the former La Cámpora member who now heads the ruling party’s caucus in the lower house of the Buenos Aires City legislature, and advisor Eduardo 'Lule' Menem.
Ramírez is Karina Milei’s top delegate in the City – the City lawmaker replaced Marra as head of the caucus as his relationship with the President’s sister deteriorated.
Last week, he was formally ejected from the party after backing the City government’s 2025 Budget, against the Casa Rosada’s wishes.
In recent months, the presidential chief-of-staff has strengthened her control over La Libertad Avanza, purging her rivals from government and embarking on various trips across the country to develop national networks for the ruling party.
